Discovering The Chairman

We first discovered The Chairman when Briana was on a business trip and had lunch at their San Francisco location. She was thrilled to hear that they had a Los Angeles location and said we had to go. We were happy to discover that it was located in one of our favorite parts of LA, the Arts District. The staff was very friendly and we have been back countless times, always leaving satisfied. Here are a few reasons why you should try the chairman.

If you are not familiar with bao, it is essentially a light steam bun that acts as the perfect vehicle for their delicious types of “tacos”. It is not dense or overly flavored, it allows all of the other flavor combinations to shine through.IMG_8255

They serve what are probably my favorite French fries in Los Angeles. They are thick cut, perfectly seasoned and served in a generous portion.IMG_8258

Flavor Combos

There are several options to choose from and each one host a myriad of flavors. The Tumeric pickled Daikon are one of my favorite, I always order an extra side. They incorporate things like crisp pork belly with those delicious daikon and spicy chicken with tahini, pickled carrots, cucumber and sesame seeds for perfectly balanced bites.IMG_5475 2

Baked Buns

For people with large appetites, they offer the same options on their baked buns. The baked bun is essentially a giant brioche that makes for a filling meal.

Beyond just Bao and baked buns, they also offer noodle and rice bowls. There are also Vegetarian and Vegan options available as well.IMG_8252

Free parking

If you have any familiarity with the DTLA area, you understand just how rare free parking is. The restaurant has a parking lot located in the back for patrons.

The chairman stands out in an area full of Asian fusion concepts. There is is limited indoor seating but there is a large outdoor area to enjoy your meal. From our very first visit, they have remained consistent and one of our favorite places to eat in Los Angeles. Located in the colorful Arts District, it is perfect for taking a stroll around after your meal. For a unique dining experience, try the chairman, you will not be disappointed.
