The Keukenhof Gardens

The Keukenhof are gardens located in the Netherlands that draw visitors from around the world during Spring.  Exact dates change every year but the gardens typically open toward the end of March and close at the beginning of May. Over the course 8 weeks, millions of flowers are in full bloom.

The park was built in 1641 but did not open to the public until 1950. Since then, the park has gained international notoriety and showcases the Dutch floricultural sector. The gardens are located on a spacious 32 hectares. You can easily spend a whole afternoon exploring the open space. There are over 800 types of Tulips but you can also find a variety of other flowers as well. Exhibitions, displaying the flowers from 500 growers can be seen in the flower shows held throughout the park season.

Food Options

When it comes to food, there are several options. There are food vendors that sell snacks such as herring and strawberries. They allow outside food which is what I recommend bringing. Save money while having a picnic in the most amazing setting.

Getting to the Keukenhof from Amsterdam

Getting to the park is very easy. Luckily, public transportation is amazing in the Netherlands. The 858 express bus, leaving from Schipol airport, takes you direct to the Keukenhof. From the airport you can arrive in as quick as 30 minutes.

Prices vary but adults pay 17 euro online, 18 in person. Cost for children 4-17 are 8 euro and 0-3 are free. If you are with large groups of 20 or more people, there is a price break. There are also park admission and transportation combo tickets available online.

The Keukenhof  is a great destination for couples as well as for families. The gardens are a one of a kind experience of colorful flowers as far as the eye can see. Visit their website to learn more and see for yourself why we love the Keukenhof.

I hope you make it sometime. We went last year for my wife’s birthday. It was her second time, we love it.
