Creative Edge Travel is committed to creating trips that allow visitors to discover authentic Italy. The visionary behind the company is Sierra, a passionate artist and entrepreneur. Sierra had the opportunity to study in Italy and fell in love with the country and the people. Her vast knowledge of the culture and local traditions make for unforgettable experiences. She has cultivated relationships with locals throughout the country, who have been integrated into the trips. We had the privilege to meet some of these locals on our last outing.

Lucia and Maurizio are a lovely, welcoming couple who reside in Sesto Fiorentino, in the hills of Tuscany. They opened up their beautiful home to host aperitivo, followed by a delicious dinner of Tuscan classics. The meal was served on their patio overlooking the City of Florence. The familiarity and good nature of our host made us feel like we were eating with family.

Aperitivo

Our evening began with aperitivo and the Italian favorite, spritz. We had the opportunity to take in the breathtaking Tuscan views and get to learn more about Lucia and Maurizio. Lucia shared a book with us that details the long storied past of their property. After getting to know each other we proceeded to my favorite part of the evening, dinner.

Authentic Tuscan Food

We began with an antipasto of crostinis, with a choice of the famous Florentine paté and lardo e tartufo (truffle). The rest of the meal consisted of papa al pomodorro, risotto, liver, grilled chicken and pork roast with roasted potatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked and paired well with the wine that flowed throughout the evening. After so much delicious food, we were not sure if we could handle dessert… luckily we managed. The fudge torte was rich, decadent and the perfect finish to our magical night.

The evening was a huge success because somewhere along the line, we forgot that we were on a trip. Over the course of the evening, we all got to know each other and it felt like we were just amongst friends and family. Between all the laughs, great food and wine, we ended up having the quintessential Italian food experience. In Italy, meals are about so much more than food. It is a time to break bread with each other, take a breath and appreciate what you have and where you are. Creative Edge Travel, true to their name, provided a unique and creative way to experience Italy like a local.
